Biddy,

I did mark Ashbourne on my calender so i would appreciate a schedule. My best hen did bugger all for me, my second best hen bred 1 which has a manky claw, i also caught here pulling feathers out of him this afternoon so shes's now gone in the flight.

Bin a funny old year really, i have a couple that look a little promising but who knows. Nice to be out and about anyway, win lose or draw.

Just been out this morning to stock up on seed, soft food soaked etc. I reckon you'd need about a grand as best in show prize money to actually make it a cost effective hobby, then youv'e got to win it.

I see you had a junior exhibiting Stafford at your nest feather show, good lad.

As for Shirebrook, it's a bugger really, but to be honest i wouldn't go anyway as there was only you and I with Lizard, Ashbourne it is then.

See you on the 10th of October, hopefully there be a fair old few for dave ross to cast his eye over.

Regards

Darren

Darren

Hope you get all 16 on the sticks and through the moult, It really has been a mixed year for some of us (Kevin excluded) 8) , I know some Lizard breeders near to me that have bred only 1,s,2s  .
I too have 1 bred from my best hen which has a slipped hind claw , had to get my daughter to help me tape it back today as the eyesight not good, fingers crossed it will recover as it is 1 that has an IOA ring and i have only 2.

Sorted my 3 sheds today and sorted through all my birds having good look @ them , things are coming along quite well @ the moment and am pleased with some of the birds, just need to get them all through the moult and show training and I will be coming to Kimberley, watch out Kev, I am going to try and squeeze a couple in your line on the staging.
I must say though when I was doing the sheds and cleaning etc following the end of breeding all I could think about was Kevin, I only have 30+ birds, he must need an assistant to clean and feed all the birds he has,Phewwww.

Joe,

Be great to see you up here in October, a trial run for the classic i guess. Kevin and I were trying to work out numbers for Kimberley.

All things being equal we should get 50+ but would be great to see 70+, not bad for a little show getting 250 - 300 birds.

60 birds fills one side of the staging, hopefully we can fill 1 this year and aim for 2 in the next couple of years.

PS - there is a coloured canary section 2 so your covered there as well Joe.

Regards

hi joe, i do have an assistant, and shes absolutely brilliant, my granddaughter, she helps to feed, change warter, give eggfood and clean out, shes a dab hand with the broom.at nearly 5 shes a futere champion if her interest continues. its great your coming to kimberly,on the cleaning issue,i clean cages twice a week,it dosent take too long, just feed eggfood before work, and put the baths on, then do the food and change water after work,i like to think my sheds are always clean ad tidy,my cages are easy they have removable trays highly reccommended.

Darren/Kevin,

Yes I will look forward to Kimberley, I want to try and get to as many good shows with Lizard numbers this year,no point in going to a show with 2 breeders. It would also be great to bring the coloureds up aswell.
All I need is for you guys to let me have a schedule when there available/
Kevin, do you use baths on your unflighteds, I tend to spray mine, as last year I could,nt show a few as they lost feathers due to the baths.
Your also lucky with the pull out trays,I dont have that luxury, I have to let the bird into the next cage, clean the cage and get it back. All good fun.

hi joe, i give a bath most days to all, i tend to spray when theyre in show cages, are you sure its the baths that caused the problems, i find its because ive usually more than 1 youngster per cage, this year its 6.they tend to squabble hence lost feathers. in an ideal world it would be 1 per cage, so might aim for 16 next year, 1 per cage, tata

What you putting down next year then, 3 pairs (based on your average). Failing that you can borrow 6 pairs off me to get the same result. Only jealous.

Probably won't make Kimberley on Wednesday as i am in London on the lash, my train isn't due back until 19.08hrs, and I'll be bladdered.

Kevin,

I can think of worse ways to make a living, butchering & Traffic Management are the first two that spring to mind, the list could go on & on.

Darren , so long as you don't make a 'pigs ear' of the TM and Kevin doesn't have stop go boards and cones all around the meat, things will work out OK.

I have been busy doing a thousand things , translating French Show Schedules into English ( World Show ) , trying to get next years rings sorted out in time for the Classic ---got a panic on now because its only 6 weeks to go and still no word from A C Hughes .

Try as I might I can't get mine to settle down , I'm show cage training every night and they are still mad as hatters .

Lots to do and little time to do it .

Regards Paul.
