nice one bud.

if you just have a look at the eggs they should look dark and olid,if so then they are full,if they still look pale then not looking good.

this can be done anytime after 4 or 5 days....

Well it sounds as if the Lizard branch of the Fancy is full steam ahead , I've issued over 1400 rings so far --maybe we can look forward to some good entries this year ---300 at the Classic would be nice, remember the Diamond Jubillee show when we had that many -----fabulous!

Regards Paul.

All gone quiet

Postby Darren on Mon Apr 06, 2009 7:38 pm

Ladies & Gents

It's all gone quite on the Lizard front. The breeding season must be in full swing now for most, usually posts flying about all over the place this time of year.

I have the following to report (should anyone be interested)

7 pairs down

6 pairs on eggs with first pair due on Wednesday morning, 7th pair have made a nest today so hopefully she will be sat as well this time next week.

does anyone have good news, I'm hoping to see a flood of messages regarding chicks everywhere.

regards

Typical

Postby Darren on Tue Apr 14, 2009 8:48 pm

Typical,

went in the birdroom this morning and found a 5 day old chick dead on the cage floor, on the other side of the double breeder to be precise, whats this all about. Has it been thrown out cause it's dead or has it been accidently transferred. fingers crossed the other ones still in the nest in the morning.

more bad news

Postby Darren on Wed Apr 15, 2009 11:03 pm

Been in again this evening and am thoroughly confused. I had a nest with 3 chicks in it. One was on the cage floor stone cold, one was in the nest and one was nowhere to be found, whats happening there then.

i got the stone cold one off the floor, cupped it and warmed it with my breath and it recovered, so i now have two in the nest, the third god only knows.

Has this happened to any of you guys?

hi darren

are the chicks with a pair????? if so remove the cock with a wire divider.
if just a hen...foster chicks to another hen..(mark with a marker pen) and let hen re go down.
sound like either a cock is driveing her about the cage or shes very jumpy and the chicks are sticking to her as she jumps.

3rd but iv seen it before.(not in my shed i must say) but mice?????

2009 breeding season so far

Postby Darren on Sun May 10, 2009 6:33 pm

It's been a slow start this year. upto press i have 3 chicks weaned and seperated from the cock & hen. Two of these chicks were from 1 nest, and the third was from another.

Another pair due off tomorrow (4 eggs) have had one hatch today, i wait with baited breath for the other three.

I then have 5 pairs sat on eggs and an old pair who have had 2 clear rounds, they are now in the flight.

Still a long way to go though, things can only get better and hopefully will. Whats happening with everybody else????

Saw Kevin Skinner this afternoon, I'll let him report his own good news though. All i will say is that next year and might just send all my pairs to his house, there's copious amounts of testosterone flying around his bird room, well done mate.

Hi Darren

Very slow start this year, mind you I lost 3 gold cock birds and know am reliant upon 1,with my 6 silver hens, still conditioning.

My 2 gold hens are now off and running so hopefull there.

@ least you have some on the sticks, But as you say there,s still a long way to go, patience .

Need to breed a few to build up my stud this year in anticipation world show 2010
