World show birds

Postby dtalizard stud on Sat Jan 31, 2009 6:45 pm

Paul, i didn't get my birds confused! there was no ring numbers on my points form or in the catalogue as thier was last year. So that was why I was not sure what bird got what points. OK

Novice / Champion

Postby Darren on Sat Jan 31, 2009 6:58 pm

At my local CBS (Kimberley for those who don't know) there are currently two novice exhibitors, us (Wardle & Lowe) & Biddy.

I joined Shirebrook CBS as Biddy also showed there and will join Ashbourne as i know she shows there. I'm not stalking her or ought honest but she's the only novice exhibitor around the Midlands (Well there is Sharon K but I think she's moving up) and I'd rather not bother if theres only my novice birds there.

Novice sections has a few of us in it at the moment, maybe we are just lucky, but in 4 years time i wonder what the situation will be.

I'd be interested to know when other novice are moving up, and their reasons for doing so, if everyone decided that next year they were changing status i would have to follow suit, otherwise I'd be showing against myself, and there isn't any point.

Be interested to know other novice exhibitors thoughts on this, I can only think of about 5 or 6 novice, does anyone know how many are actually in the LCA?

And yes Dave put biddy up for Best Lizard and there wasn't an exhibitor there (7 of us) who thought it was the wrong decision.

Regards

Darren

My take on this is that I am staying @ Novice for a while, give me the opportunity to learn and glean from the Champs (and they do help you if your novice).

My target as I have said before is the world show 2011,I will hope fully have bred/shown a few birds that are almost my own strain and I will know where I am in comparison to others.

I went to all the Lizard show,s last year as a Novice and gained a tremendous amount of information from so many, would I have gained this @ champ level in a first year back,I dont believe so.

I like the idea if it happened as Paul has suggested of "all in " and then distinguise between Novice and Champ @ the end of the show.

I also agree with Andy that we should all stick to the one ring format LCA,IOA,i prefer LCA maintain the identity of the club

I agree with you Joe that LCA coded rings is the way forward, however they will probably cost more than normal LCA rings, some may not appreciate paying an additional amount if they have no intention of showing.

Last year there was a club in Leicester who had LCA affiliation, does anyone know anything about the club, where is it, does it have patronage this year, who is judging this year (if anyone) and is there anyone attending this year.

You can't get more central than Leicester.

hi all
can i just explain a thing or 3
i am not proposeing to do away with the novices....what my idea is that when you entre a show we all put our birds in the same classes and then all get judged in the classes
the chief steward then brings up the best birds for the specials.
if a novice bird say comes 4th best it will automatically be best novice.
the highest placed novice bird in say ccsc wins best novice ccsc. although it may not even be in the 1st seven on the bench .at all the shows i steward or judge at (iv been judging NORWICH,YORKIE,NEW COLOURED,BRITISH, AND AOV ) for a number of years now a, as the birds are knocked out it is placed at the end of the class. if this is done then its a simple question of looking back at the entrys to find each winner.
if 2 birds cannot be seperated then the judge look again

with the entrys we get these days its no problem.
iv chatted to bob bunting and if the rest of the EAST ANGLIAN committee agree id like to try it at our show in october. with a bit of thought and care it can be done with lizards although i wouldnt want to try it as a judge or steward in the fife section lol

Makes sense to me Andy , less paper work for the already under pressure Show Secretary . less expense in printing etc and as you say its not as if we get 400-500 birds .
Also all the birds would be lined up against each other on the staging so beginners could actually assess their birds against the others instead of having to try and keep a mental image as they go to a different part of the hall to look at their own birds.

Forward thinking and we need a bit more of it !!

Regards Paul.

Andy.

I showed @ the East Anglian last year and was the only Novice although my birds were put into the arena with the Champs.

But unfortunately I still came away not knowing how good my birds were in comparison as it was not noted becauase my birds were separated from the Champ class( I know they were,nt that good),Bob Bunting told me so<LOL, but it would have been nice to see how they did. in the class

I think it would be good to see how good they are,so I would be all for your suggestion.

hi joe
Unfortunately i didnt get to steward at last yrs ealca show as i was showing my dogs elsewhere the same day .but if i had been your birds would of been put in the mix so to speak.
as paul said both he and i moved up to champion last yr as the previous 2 yrs as a novice i compeated against 1 or 2 other novices...not my idea of what i wanted.
my results since moving up say i made the right move...in 07 i put 4 birds in the classic and got a 2nd/4th/6th/7th in their respective classes.
08 i benched 13 birds and got 11 in the cards.....my best class to my mind was the broken cap silver cock class as i put 3 in it and got 2nd/3rd and 4th ...21 entered i believe...(stan won again lol)
for me thats the only way i can see to progress....cant wait for the 09 season

Andy we moved up in 07 , as it was either you or me winning Novice classes , remember our 'battles' as to who had the best Non Caps ?

05 I had Best Novice and 4th Best in Show at the Diaminod Jubille Classic ,with that Gold Non Cap Hen (died before I got an egg from it ) in 06 I bred only a few Lizards and had Best Novice Overyear at the Classic .In 07 I won two Champion classes and in 08 I won one Champion class and finished second in two (bet you can't guess who won those classes :D S.B.)

Our first Lizard show as Champion was the ELCA SHOW in 07 , I won Gold Clear Cap Cock class remember now? It was a small entry and we went for it ---I remember who won it (but thats not hard really ,) Stan with that Gold Hen . I remember it well because I pestered and pestered him for it and he sold it to me at the 07 Classic ------it never laid an egg in 08 :D He knew , he knew or he'd never of sold it :D

Regards Paul.
