Affiliation to COM

Postby Darren on Mon Jan 26, 2009 10:22 pm

Ladies / Gents and those who aren't sure

I thought I'd start a new thread linked directly to affiliation to COM to see what the response is, a sort of barometer to measure the interest from LCA members, albeit not all members use this site.

If only the LCA have to affiliate then there can't be any negatives can there?

If you personally choose to exhibit then obviously you have to be a member, if you don't wish to exhibit overseas then you don't have to do anything, is that correct?

Do you think that if we affiliated that we could entice more overseas breeders over her to the Classic, could something be sorted so that the Italian LCA could send birds over as you send birds to the world show without actually having the expense of attending themselves, or we could do the same by sending birds across there. Surely you only need 2 blokes in a van to go across acting as caretakers of the birds on the way there & back with all of the expense being shared between all of the exhibitors, or is this just the simplistic view?

You never know we could end up with 500+ birds at the classic, @ a quid an entry we could offer first class medals (like the world show), proper prize money, a 2 day show or simply make a profit in order to be able to offer enhanced prizes @ LCA patronage shows, cheaper rings or colouring or whatever the committee wants.

More entries can only be a good thing.

When is the best time to bring this up, at the committee meeting in May, or at the AGM at the classic?

Lets have an opinion from everyone registered on the forum, for or against lets be having your thoughts.

Regards

Darren

this is only my first year in the show scene so not 100% up on all the rules and regs.

is it right that if my lizards have lca rings then i cannot show overseas.

if that is correct then we MUST affiliate.

where do we stand in the uk if we ring our birds with ioa rings,do they still qualify for our own pedigree scheme.

guy,s.

I believe that if you have IOA rings you can show on the continent and uk,But are not eligible for the pedigree scheme unless you have LCA rung birds.

some answers lads

Postby dtalizard stud on Wed Jan 28, 2009 9:17 pm

1] it is possible for anyone from Europe to show at the Classic and some have in the Past includeing Jules Eettine and some of Huw Evans friends from Belgium.
2] a two day show would be to expensive to run really unless you have 500 or 600 Lizards or you incorprated it with another show something the LCa is not keen on as we want to keep our own idenity.
3] Affilcation to the IOA would mean the LCA rings would have to have ID codes for members, the rings would then be ordered from the manfacteurs with the code numbers on them.
4] this should be raised a the LCA committee in May but woulkd i think have to go to the AGM to be voted on.
5] you can showe birds with LCA ring in some show in Europe but it is expensive as you need each bird to be checked by a vet before they leave. But they can't be shown with the current LCA ringing scheme at the world show.
6]IOA ring don't currently quailify for the pedigree ring scheme.

So as some of you may know I currently ring all my Lizards with IOA rings
so i have all my birds I bred qualify for the World show.

I hope that has answered a few of the questions you have raised.
regards David.

in that case then,i think the way forward is for us to use ioa rings but put it to a vote as to wether or not they should still qualify for the pedegree scheme as they are close rings...

No need Steve , the LCA just affiliate to the IOA (£10) and submit a sample ring , then we'd be able to use ID coded LCA rings at both LCA shows and COM shows . The ID code would simply be your membership number , and remember the pedigree scheme is only recognised by the SLCC and not the LCA , and the wording says for the pedigree scheme ' A unique ring' --so long as it is closed.

Members would thenn have the choice of two rings ( just like the CCBA and the BBC) LCA ID Coded rings for those that want to show home and away or LCA Rings for those that have no interest in going over the water .

Also remember there is no requirement for Lizards to be close rung at LCA patronage shows , it is only recomended

Regards Paul.

Andy , the cages are marked as soon as the show sec writes out the cage lables , some marked Champion , the others marked Novice . You have to have faith in the Judges ---I have just seen 27,000 birds all close rung and even Dave got his birds muddled up ----there is nothing to worry about !!

Even if you put a Stan Bolton ring on one of my birds , Stan would still beat it!!

Controversy

Postby Darren on Sat Jan 31, 2009 12:50 pm

you can't beat a good debate. I guess from your comments Andy you are dead set against coded rings. When you think about it up until last year Stan didn't even use LCA rings, just brightly coloured closed rings. you wouldn't need to be a genius to pick out his birds would you.

Rules & regulations can't suit everyone, but must suit the majority, maybe a ballot on this with all LCA members would help us to understand what the general feeling on this is.

you could also argue whether having blue, cobalt & topaz Lizard canaries is right. I'm not saying it is or isn't, what i am saying is that you can only second guess what the feeling on this is, again a ballot could help to understand the feeling within the LCA.

What is the view from others, obviously the old timers don't tend to use the forum as the home computer has not reached all and probably never will, as Bob Hoskins famously said in the late eighties, "It's good to talk"

hi all

actually darren you would be wrong in thinking im against it. im all for it m8.
what i am against is the mess that the systm is already in.

you say stan didnt use lca rings ...he did...as well as his split rings.
me...i used lca/split and a combination to mix my birds up.

i guess im a bit of a study freak because i can pick 90% of peoples birds out...even if they had no cage lables on them.
what im trying to get at is WE SHOULD ALL DO THE SAME....if its lca rings then we all use them...ioa we all use them.
i was very dissapointed to see 1 person showing birds with 2 split rings on 1 leg...thats totally wrong by the rules. but as its a novice not a big problem as they have to learn.

my last point is... all birds should be judged in the same classes. ie no champ/novices as if a novice bird is put up for best in show at a mixed breed show IT WILL NOT WIN.
at the clasic we have c1 c2 ect and n1 n2 ect WHY????????
its just a question of a bit of extra paperwork/work for the chief stewards to bring up the winners for best prizes in the ch/nov sections

well that that off me chest lol

Can't argue with you there Andy , as you know I've long been a fan of showing 'All In' once the results are in it is a simple matter of checking the highest placed Novice if we still wish to retain prizes for both Champion and Novice .

They say that by retaining Novice it encourages beginners but I'm not so sure , You and I both moved up long before we had to , to get a bit of competition and I beleive that has made us both better breeders as we had to get our acts together a bit sharpish.

But saying all that the Novice section is as strong now as it has ever been but I still don't like it , its almost patronising . In my local CBS half the so called champions have never won anything , not even a prize in the raffle , yet because they have been at it for 5 years they can call themseleves Champion. Could you imagine the Boxing Board of Control saying to a fighter "You've been fighting for 5 years now --we are going to make you a champion" ?

The whole system needs a major overhaul but there will be strong resistance so we'll carry on getting our 150 birds at a show whilst over the water with no champion /novice , all birds close rung , and paying 4 or 5 Euro per cage entrance they'll carry on getting their 1,000's . Makes you think eh?

champion v novice

Postby dtalizard stud on Sat Jan 31, 2009 6:42 pm

Well Steve as Darren will tell you when I judge Kimberly [my first judging engagement as a LCA panel judge] I put a Novice up for best Lizard.
It was in my opinion the best Lizard so it won best Lizard. And i think most of the LCA panel would do the same. I am not saying this would happen in all varieties of Canaries, but I do think it would in the Lizard.
