bloody mice

Postby john boy on Wed Apr 08, 2009 5:38 pm

having my hut on stilts keeps the mice away from inside the hut, seeds in an old dustbin so is totally safe even if they got in,the daughters got a moggie which far from stopping the birds breeding etc they soon learned he can only go as far as the wire flight and ignore him,his favourite place is under the hut,the problem i had was the flight, though it has a concrete floor ive observed baby mice squeeze through the wire,i was worried as they carry loads of germs,so what did i do to solve the situation?,easy, cut lengths of perspex to size 12 inches high all the way around the bottom of the flight, its transparent therefore plenty light gets in,and it cuts out the wind and the mice cant climb its smooth surface, like they do up my brothers brick wall surround whiuch he built three foot high to deter mice, and guess what it didnt work,i still watch the mice come from the neighbours fence to try and get in the flight, but so far so good theyve all failed,ps my breeding birds are in a spare bedroom in the house, the flights are used for moulting out and exercise over winter only.
