When breeding Lizard Canarys.....can someone briefly explain the defenite do nots when it comes to pairing birds up in accordance to cap type and colour.....although I will not be breeding any myself I want to have a clear understanding of the aims of each/pairings.

Thanks in advance

I'm just a mere novice tommy, someone will probably explain better but here goes.

Do pair silver to gold OR gold to silver (gold to gold / silver to silver is like buff to buff or yellow to yellow)

Do not pair clear cap to clear cap (you will get over capped birds)

anything else goes really

more advise to follow from others.

it took me two years to realise you need to put a cock and hen together, and i very often now try hen to hen, its only when 8 eggs appear i realise my mistake, its all good fun..

You can pair any of the following combinations. Clear Cap to Broken Cap. Broken Cap to Broken Cap. Non Cap to Clear Cap. Non Cap to Broken Cap.
Non Cap to Non Cap.#
But as stated before never clear cap to clear cap.
and always Gold to Silver.
If you follow these golden rules you will be on the right tracks.
