keep it simple

Postby john boy on Tue Apr 07, 2009 6:12 pm

sitting in my local last sunday afternoon with the lads a young guy came over and asked how my season was going, great i replied the only thing i am worried about is the amount of space available, there churning them out, every egg except one batch from a old hen was full and have hatched, all the young are now in nursery cages and the hens building for the second round,i must have got all duds then he said, knowing he got his pairs from the same chap as me we put our heads together to try and figure where he went wrong, the diffrence was in the feeding of the birds,he gave the best of everything from a to z,and when i told him i dont use vitamins pro or anti biotics only soaked seed dandelion and egg food he was flabbergasted,he had dis, hens not feeding and young dead before they were featherd etc etc,i hear these stories every year and have allways thought to much is as bad as to little,so my advice to any young lads just starting keep it simple, there canarys not race horses.

True

Too True. My old man kept canaries for 40 years and never used any of that stuff. He keeps Gouldians now and is forever messing about with this and that. Canaries, hard as nails.

Good points you have raised there John , build some natural resistance into them.
