I always said that I never wanted to become a Judge but when we formed the HCBA we needed some UK judges , so of I went to Belgium to take my test , written & practical to judge 'canaries of smooth feather and shape ' ie: Posture Canaries.

But then I got to thinking that there is a bit of a Judge in all of us that exhibit birds : When we are deciding which birds to retain , we are judging them . When we put together breeding pairs we are judging them . When we sort out the show team we are judging them . When we walk round the shows looking at the birds we are judging them (and lets not forget that we all judge the judges) so its just a case of transfering that knowledge to the Juding trestle . We can all spot a good bird when we see one .

Something of interest here , in Iran at Persian Rasmi shows ( a specialist canary in Iran) there is no standard and the winner is decided by general consensus amongst the exhibitors ----now theres a novel way of doing it!

Regards Paul.

Saving judging expenses

That sounds perfect Paul. hows about we try that next year at the Classic but we just accept now that its my bird thats gonna win. We could just bench the birds at 12.00hrs (nice lie in for most) and open for the public at 13.00hrs, lift y 15.00hrs and off.

you could engrave the trophy for me prior to the show, send a show report off to tweet weekly prior and the jobs a good un.

failing that we can just return to form and go through the labour intensive method of actually judging and making a day of it.

luv the iran thing paul but do you not think that this methord of picking a winner has come about due to all the judges being executed for not picking the correct bird ??????

:D now why did I not think of that Andy?

By the way this is a Rasmi , it was developed by crossing a Yorkshire with a Giboso .

Rasmi

Postby Darren on Tue Mar 03, 2009 9:39 pm

Quite a nice bird, are they actually a recognised breed outside of Iran?

not sure if i like it because of it's colour or its shape but there is something about it.

Bet you don't see many in this country, youv'e all one seeing many Yorkies unless you go to a specialist show. are these rare or just obscure?

Never seen one in the flesh Darren , not even on the Continent so would say that they are perculiar to Iran. But you know me , always drawn to something a 'little different' . Hopefully the French Fancy Canary (working name) will take another step in its creation this year , the plan was to present it to the COM in 2011 when the world show is in France (hence the name) but it may not be ready until Slovina when of course it will become the Slovinian :D

Regards Paul.
