LCA Judges

Postby Darren on Tue Feb 24, 2009 10:45 pm

Just thinking about the conversation at the AGM regarding the situation with LCA panel judges.

Has there been any interest with people wanting to be mentored by existing panel judges through the 2009 show season?

Not expecting a stampede i guess but would be nice to think there was some interest.

can't wait until I'm eligible, but thats a long way off.

Well thats the first I've heard of that Dave , if we were an association with hundreds of members cueing up to become Judges then that officious attitude may have some place ---tell you what , don't think I'll bother now , save you the trouble of 'having to put it to the council' !

well
i too did not know about the application thing....at the LCA AGM stan bolton made a proposal that any previous novice who has now showed as a champion for 2 yrs can do his/her training....bye 2010 they will for had 3 yrs as champion and be aloud to judge...(asuming they pass) in their 4th yr instead of waiting 5 yrs and judging in the 6th....it was accepted.
if you look at the panel there are only 6 active judges and they spread over a distance of 250/300 miles , and an inactive one (thank god)
i think the 2 johns ..martin/record have carried a huge burden in the last few difficult yrs and done more then their fair share of travelling at proberly their own expence.

ps i did ask JM at the classic and JR at the southern if they would tutor me and also norman reeve agreed to be a reserve if illness or changes of plan appear......chairman and sect. of the lca and 2 of the 5 council members

Hi all.

I bred Lizards for seven in the 70,s.

Came back last year as novice, mainly because the birds were,nt good enough

To be honest whats the point of remaining a novice for any period of time if you want to get in to being a LCA judge.

May as well move to champion asap and take your chances.

Then be trained by one of the top boys

I must admit I am shocked @ how few judges there are and would enourage the LCA Council to do way with red tape and take onboard any member who wishes to train with open arms.

I am sure the 2 j,s and other,s would like to show more often like the rest of us.

Well Said

Postby Darren on Sat Feb 28, 2009 8:11 pm

Could'nt agree more Joe. Don't worry at this moment in time i have no desire to judge due to my inexperience, however i do admire the few who spend October, November, December racing up and down the country to judge a hand full of Lizard just for the love of it.

We all have a desire for the Lizard to be bred & exhibited more across the country, what for example would happen if 30 CBS applied for patronage this year, JR, JM,DTA and a couple of others (sorry if i have missed you out) will spend the year judging, not exhibiting yet again. I bet they can't wait.

Sharon K also has a very valide point, she has exhibited Lizard for longer than most, yet cannot apply for at least another 2 years, how bizzare seeing as she would actually like to train.

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got. - Who wants that?

PS sorry i even asked, just trying to make conversation.

Forum is the ideal vehicle

Postby Darren on Sun Mar 01, 2009 3:27 pm

I suppose this forum is the ideal vehicle for Lizard debate, you can't tell i spend half my working life on committee's and in forums (ideal vehicle), proper company man me.

I hope we get more, I'd love to have a Lizard judge at all the shows i attend, after all theres nothing worse than having your birds judged by a coloured canary or Gloster man, you might as well put the class numbers in a tombola, and pull them out to see who's won what.

Good luck to anyone participating in the judging panel scheme this year, after all doers are better tahn talkers.

I spoke with Sharon @ the classic and was surprised how long she had remained @ Novice, but she felt strongly about getting in to judging I believe

If she wants to become a Lca judge, she should be given the opportunity know to be trained, Not in 2 years time,

It may be that some are not good enough know, but @ least they will have begun the training process

Even if you add,Geoff,Paul and Andy (HOPEFULLY) its still not enough judges coming through.

The Lizard following is growing,as Andy said he has orders for birds already and you continualy find demand for the Lizard is out growing supply, lets grow the judging panel know ,

Who knows we may need judges for Eire soon

iv been thinking long and hard about the judgeing and would like to open a debate on my thoughts..

what about judging divisions

ie senior judges to do the big 3 LCA CLASSIC...EALCA & SLCC also big club shows..ie bury st edmunds (slcc club show)

ALLother judges to do a min 2 cbs show a yr for 5 yrs to gain experience befor tackling the big ones
im sure members can twist the arms of their local CBS to have a lizard judge present ...and arrange it amongst ourselves who judges then im sure it will work

this works in the dog world ... judges are always being reviewed and are promoted in time and on ability.

thoughts :?:

Lizard Judges

Postby Darren on Mon Mar 02, 2009 1:57 pm

The cat is defiateley amongst the pigeons with this one. I would guess Andy that you wouldn't be ased to judge the Classic , EALCA or South bucks in your first couple of years anyway, I might be wrong.

As regards judging local CBS shows, my local (Kimberley CBS for those who haven't heard me banging on about it) we are hoping for 60 - 70 Lizard this year and think this is achievable, thats alot of birds for an inexperienced judge to look at.

What are the thoughts of the judges currently doing the rounds?

your very right there darren and i would not expect to be asked to judge any of the big 3 ...classic, east anglian or southern lcc within 5 yrs of being put on the judgeing panel ( asuming i pass), and personally wouldnt want to untill iv at least won them first,(and that may never be)
i think the lizard canary is a very difficult breed to judge ...the winning bird in each class usally stands out but its the next 6 thats difficult.
i once judged a class of greenfinches that had an entry of 23 (that was a challange i can tell you) and at boston cbs 2 yrs ago judged british/norwich/yorkshire/new colour and aov that was a total of 97 birds and was pleased when the other 2 canary judges picked the yorkie as best canary...and a good roast dinner was had to lol
